K9 Essentials
All Cedar Valley K9 training is based on the principals of learning and development through positive reinforcement and effective communication.
Our essentials courses are for dogs 6 months and older who are still learning the basics of obedience or need a refresher. There are two levels of essentials. Level One is our starter course. Level Two builds on the foundations in Level One and introduces more advanced commands and human-K9 communication.
Both courses include 6 one hour training sessions and are conducted at the Cedar Valley K9 centre. The maximum number of students for courses is limited to 6, so we can provide individual attention to each and ensure training goals are met.

K9 Essentials Level One
Course Information
This six week class is for dogs 6 months or older who are still learning the basics of obedience or maybe need a refresher. There is no prerequisite class for K9 Essentials Level One.
Hours: 1 hour per week for six weeks.
Maximum: 6 students
Prerequisite: None
Registration fee: $175 (plus GST)

K9 Essentials Level Two
Course Information
Take your training up to the next step with our six week K9 Essentials Level Two class. K9 Essentials Level Two is for dogs that have completed a basic obedience class and are ready to take on new challenges and higher learning.
Hours: 1 hour per week for six weeks.
Maximum: 6 students
Prerequisite: K9 Essentials Level One
Registration fee: $175 (plus GST)

In K9 Essentials Level One, you will learn how to:

• Sit, Stay, Down
• Leave it and Drop it
• Loose Leash Walking techniques
• Impulse Control
• Recall/Come
• Introduction to canine body language
• CKC Pre-Novice and Novice style obedience for students preparing to compete.
Vaccination Requirements
All dogs must have vaccinations for canine distemper, canine parvovirus and rabies within the last three years. We also accept serum antibody titer tests.
In K9 Essentials Level Two, you will learn how to:
• Formal Heel• Heeling without a leash
• Duration stays/sits
• Down in motion (drop while moving)
• Finish into heel position (Finish exercise)
• Move through obstacles (Figure 8)
• Recall (Come when called)
• Introduction to Obedience commands by Hand Signal only. CKC competition style obedience.
• Increasing Distance, Duration and Distraction during exercises
